Circa 1990 at a small grass landing strip near Rockford, Illinois, USA. He and a buddy had just flown there from Lewis University Airport, in Illinois, for a Sunday morning fly-in breakfast. Every weekend he flew somewhere. He loved to fly, but had to quit when he retired because it became too expensive.

He was known as "Top Gun" in at least one circle of friends - hence the cap.
